By Lynda Richard The Bradner Flower Show was started in 1928 by area pioneer Fenwick Fatkin as a venue for local growers to showcase their daffodils, and Bradner has become famous as the “Daffodil Capital of Canada.” A small rural hamlet with a wonderful sense of community; the show is produced by the Bradner Community Club, a longstanding service organization operated on a 100% volunteer basis. Fenwick’s family is involved in the show to this day, with granddaughter Pauline serving as co-chair of the show. Each year several thousand people arrive to take in the displays and activities at the show. We are planning an event that is interesting, informative and most of all, fun! Sign up for an art class over Spring Break! Cost is $125 + GST. The instructor, Barry Ratzlaff, has taught this class at MEI and has done single classes at South Poplar and Upper Sumas. He was a youth pastor for 12 years as well and is excellent with kids. Great to have this offered locally! Sign up by emailing Barry bearnelsonart@gmail.com.
By Ruby Jaggernath,
My friend from Vernon was coming for a visit so I decided to provide a real treat for her - and treat it was, for both of us. Where? Well, last summer my son came from Penticton for a visit. I told them about the organic blueberries at Onninks, how they use Falcons instead of cannon to control birds, how they use manually distributed nematodes instead of chemicals to control insect pests. Of course they went to check out the blueberries right away, and brought back a box of them which we immediately proceeded to consume.
