Bradner BC - Yes, I am very opposed to K-5 for our rural schools for many reasons! HOWEVER, people are spreading rumours about what they THINK Eugene Reimer and Rick Hansen are like. Although enrollment for both of these schools has been declining, it is mostly due to rumours that people are circulating about these two schools. I have had 2 daughters attend Eugene Reimer Middle School (ER) and are now at Rick Hansen Secondary (RH), and they are both doing very well at school. By Carryl Peters,
Mt Lehman BC - I am a parent of Mt. Lehman Elementary and I will just start this letter with letting you know right off I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS PROPOSAL. I sit here and wonder though, is this a proposal or just a strategy of a long term plan to do away with our rural schools? By Dawn Lewis, Bradner Parent
This isn't how Saturday nights are meant to be! Thank you Abbotsford School District for ruining my weekend! I can't think of anything else but your reconfiguration proposal or the billions of reasons why your wrong in what your doing. Good luck to the poor shmuck that will have to read my letters and the research I've compiled on the subject. I would normally pass this along with a bottle of sympathy wine but I will be enjoying that while I work through the night... and passing the others to my partners in this endeavour you've created for us. Dear Trustees of the Abbotsford Board of Education and whom it may concern - without prejudice.. My name is Conny Corcoran and I have 4 children; 3 of which attend Bradner Elementary, and 1 which has graduated from Bradner's grade 7 class and attended Bradner since Kindergarten, who now attends DW Poppy. I am writing on behalf of saving our school's K-7 configuration. Kevin Godden cited in his letter from November 26, 2015 that "Parents/Guardians along with students and staff are By Heather Lemieux,
Signs were put up in Bradner to voice the stance of the community in opposition of the Abbotsford School Board's proposed plan to reconfigure Bradner Elementary from a Grade K-7 - to a K-5. This proposal is being expedited by the school board leaving parents rushed into a decision to leave Bradner school or risk their children having to attend Eugene Reimer Middle School right beside Rick Hansen Secondary. The majority of Bradner parents are withdrawing their children to cross-district in Langley, register at private schools or home school because they do not want to send their children to end up in Eugene Reimer, Middle Schools in general and want their right to choose what's best for their children to be protected. This plan includes 6 rural farm community schools in Abbotsford. If it goes through hundreds of children will be forced to leave their communities or be bussed nearly ten's of kilometres to inner city schools. The Abbotsford School Board issued a single page letter By Heather Lemieux,
The Abbotsford School District reported an issue with their email system which started 12:30 pm Monday afternoon until 8:45am on Tuesday January 12th, 2016. Parents sending emails to any emails ending in @sd34.bc.ca. The issue was said to be resolved now after we contacted the IT department. The Bradner Barker has run its own investigation and this is what we found out... By Heather Lemieux,
Bradner BC - The Initiative, Referenda, and Recall system, or IRR system is an initiative process through which a registered voter can propose a new law or changes to an existing law on matters over which the provincial legislature has authority. A voter must collect signatures from 10% of the registered voters in each of the province’s electoral districts for an initiative petition to succeed. The initiative process is unique to BC – no other province or territory in Canada has initiative legislation....! So how can this IRR system be used to save our education system in BC and our K-7's in Abbotsford? By Russ Walsh, Bradner BC - Given the uproar caused by Abbotsford School District's ill-advised, seemingly unilateral decision to tear the upper grades from Bradner Elementary and five (5) others (Mt Lehman, Aberdeen, Ross, Barrowtown & Upper Sumas) and transplant them to a distant, foreign school across town, called a 'Middle School', not of parents' choosing, it's time to uncover the flaw inherent in the current school system that allows travesties such as this to occur in the first place. Take this time to read on and find out for yourself what your child's school funding from the government actually gets spent on... it's shocking. There are three (3) school systems in British Columbia. The 'public' system, the independent system and the home school program. There are currently 2,100 home school students in BC.... Two of my grandchildren are in the homeschool program. A report called Home Schooling in Canada: The CURRENT PICTURE – 2015 EDITION released says that between 2007 and 2012, enrolment in Canadian home schools went up by 29%. For the same period, |
