Bradner, BC - On February 23rd, 2016 exhausted parents and members of the community attended the Abbotsford Board of Education meeting to hear the trustees vote on the fate of rural Abbotsford schools.
Without prejudice - Reader beware. The Abbotsford School Districts plan to re-configure 6 rural schools in Abbotsford from grades K - 7 to K - 5 has brought a lot of stress on families with children attending district schools. The west Abbotsford children are to be sent to Eugene Reimer Middle School (ER), and has parents standing up to the district in force saying no and standing firm - their kids have been withdrawn from the district all together. So what's wrong with middle school? Whats wrong with ER? Much discussion has taken place about the violence drug, and crime issues in the west Abbotsford area, namely in the area of Townline Road and Blueridge Drive. The community has requested the analysis of what is being SAID and what is REAL. This article is a compilation of recent events that have happened. This is a fact vs rumour analysis, decide what you want... participate in the discussion. What is referenced here is only a small cross-section of the search engine results available, there are many other incidents, Reader beware.
Updated Feb. 23, 2016 - Bradner CELEBRATES as it learns of the ALC's decision to deny the ALR exclusion that would have destroyed 225 acres of prime farming land in the rural farming community.
The City of Abbotsford voted to support an application to exclude 22 properties located in west Abbotsford, in our rural farming community of Bradner BC in 2012. The Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) application was from the Pacific Land Group on behalf of 0903475 BC Ltd. (principles: Ron Emerson and Joseph Segal) to exclude 22 properties totalling nearly 91 ha (225 acres) from the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). An Abbotsford city counsellor, Patricia Ross commented that the developer plans to take another go at pushing the application through the ALC by re-submitting the application within the 60 day period of appeal after a decision... so what the motivation?? Money. The Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts high school (ASIA-Sumas) is presenting the family-friendly classic musical, Bye, Bye Birdie on February 25 and 26th, 2016 @ the Abbotsford Arts Centre.
2329 Crescent Way, Abbotsford, BC Friday February 26th, 2016 - Bradner Community Club members are invited for a Cards & Darts Fun Night @ 7 pm - 1 am! Feel free to bring a snack... visit the Bradner Hall website for more info on events! What on earth is going on at Dunach Elementary School? The Abbotsford School District closed this school in June 2010 and boarded up the windows. The Abbotsford Police have been seen there frequently as it is thought that they are conducting parts of their training in the building, but not lately. Over the last few months there has been School District staff, contractors and equipment doing various upgrades and construction. Today, a Bradner parent saw a huge garbage bin outside with tables, chairs, projectors and equipment... why the school district is being so hush hush...?!
On February 3rd, 2016, trustees Kevin Godden and the School Board Treasurer attended Bradner Elementary School for a meeting with Bradner parents who posed questions from every possible angle, re-phrased and re-worded to get results. Straight answers were almost non-existent. The only question they answered without smoke in mirrors or trotting down bunny trails was, "Did the district buy land on the east side of Abbotsford for a new school?" The Mt. Lehman Garden Club holds it's monthly meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month (except August and December) @ 7 pm at the Mt. Lehman Hall, 7418 Mt. Lehman Road.
The next monthly meeting is February 18th, @ 7 pm. Deborah Jones of the Cougar Creek Streamkeepers in Delta will be presenting about Rain Gardens! New members are welcome! Call 604-856-5865 for more info! In light of all the latests upheavals I’ve felt in my community of Bradner and the enormous strain the re-configuration plan has put on Our families, unknowingly or not, I suggest the Abbotsford School Board take a minute - and a long stride in the backwards direction - to see the ramifications of their surprise announcement in late November 2015 and their effects on the smaller of life sources within our great country.
