UPDATED - October 5, 2015
By Lynda Richard BRADNER, BC - On Monday, September 28, 2015, a huge fire involving two chicken barns had Bradner Road closed between Starr and McTavish. The fire occurred on a chicken farm, just south of McTavish in the 7000 block. There was a lot of congestion as neighbours and passer-by's converged on the area to get a look at the spectacle. Smoke could be seen as far south as Lynden, Washington and west to metro Vancouver.

Abbotsford may be facing a tax shortfall in 2013 that could be as high as $900k after the province changed the way farm buildings can be taxed by municipalities.
Did you know? The Abbotsford Airport development gets a significant property tax break for 10 years via the establishment of a Revitalization Tax Exemption Program that was adopted by the City of Abbotsford in 2008. The program was established for eligible properties located within the Abbotsford International Airport Revitalization Area.

Bradner BC - I am writing on behalf of the Bradner residence, in conflict with James Conway. We are not part of any hoodlum, vigilante acts. We are a community frustrated with corrections, frustrated with the system. This system has failed us again and are frustrated that a child sex offender is allowed to live in the ALR breaking a bylaw. What makes it ok for them to break laws? If they were not here in the first place none of this stuff would ever have happened. This is a beautiful neighbourhood with great people, the problem, after all, is the sex offender and a half-way house running in an illegal way. The following article was written by reporter Vikki Hopes and posted on the Abbotsford News website on Sept. 26th, 2015. The residence of Conway, convicted child sex offender, was intentionally flooded early Saturday morning, causing the ceiling to collapse. Constable Ian MacDonald said the Abbotsford Police received a report at 2 am about a flooding of the home on Joanita Place in the North Bradner area. Bradner BC - Brad Moran has been ranked as one of the top 125 players in the history of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The list was released as part of the WHL’s 50th season celebration.
Moran grew up on McTavish Road on a dairy farm (McTavish & Satchell). I remember biking there for my Grade 7 Bradner School bicycling field trip. He played for the Canucks briefly (they foolishly let him go..!). Moran is also Peggy Parkinson’s nephew, who was my Grade 3 teacher at Bradner School. Wishing you the best on your birthday and a HUGE thanks for all you do for our community of Bradner! - From the Old Timer Barker Gals!

Bradner BC - Are you in the dark about what to expect or who the candidates are in the next federal election? I hope this message helps solve the mystery of where we now vote and who the candidates are. On October 19th, 2015, two months from now, residents of North & South Abbotsford will cast their vote to who they support. Here is a quick overview of the majority of Abbotsford Rural Ratepayers candidates. One candidate we won’t have is the Honourable Ed Fast, as he leaves our new riding to run in another new riding; named Abbotsford. ![]() Mt Lehman BC - On Thursday, September 24th, 2015 a black bear was seen on the doorstep of Etsell Winery. The winery is located in the heart of Mt Lehman near the post office, school and library to name a few. At this time of year bears are looking for food, fruit, berries and nuts to store up for their winter hibernation. They will also target residential compost and garbage bins. The black bear is the most common and widely distributed of the three bears found in Canada. BC boasts one of the highest populations of black bears in the world with their numbers being anywhere between 120,000-150,000 animals. The Wildsafe BC website says that, 'pretty much all of BC is considered 'bear country' with bears inhabiting everything from the coastal forests, through to the interior grasslands. From north to south and east to west in this province you’ll have a chance to see black bears.
