UPDATED - October 5, 2015 By Lynda Richard BRADNER, BC - On Monday, September 28, 2015, a huge fire involving two chicken barns had Bradner Road closed between Starr and McTavish. The fire occurred on a chicken farm, just south of McTavish in the 7000 block. There was a lot of congestion as neighbours and passer-by's converged on the area to get a look at the spectacle. Smoke could be seen as far south as Lynden, Washington and west to metro Vancouver. The fire broke out in the early afternoon and firefighters rushed to the scene. Both barns appear to be a total loss. The barns were undergoing an addition at the time of the fire. It is believed they housed 60,000 layers (laying chickens), although it is not known exactly how many were in the barn at the time of the fire. Crews were still onsite early on the morning of the 29th putting out hotspots, and there was still smoke rising from the debris on Tuesday evening. Neighbours who rely on the the North Bradner Reservoir for their water supply reported problems with lack of water, pressure and air pockets in the line. There is no word on the cause of the fire, a devastating event for the Redekop family who operates the farm. September 28, 2015
