Bradner BC - Brad Moran has been ranked as one of the top 125 players in the history of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The list was released as part of the WHL’s 50th season celebration. Moran grew up on McTavish Road on a dairy farm (McTavish & Satchell). I remember biking there for my Grade 7 Bradner School bicycling field trip. He played for the Canucks briefly (they foolishly let him go..!). Moran is also Peggy Parkinson’s nephew, who was my Grade 3 teacher at Bradner School. Brad Moran's career included joining the Calgary Hitmen in 1995 until 2000. Where he was starred in all five years, he recorded 100 points in three consecutive years, and his player number (20) was retired by the team. He also continues to hold the Calgary franchise records for games played, assists in a season, all-time assists, all-time goals and all-time points.
In the WHL, Moran was a two-time all-star and won awards for regular season most valuable player (MVP), top scorer and playoffs MVP. Moran was drafted in the seventh round in the 1998 American Hockey League (AHL) draft by the Buffalo Sabres and played in the AHL. Then he was picked-up by the Columbus Blue Jackets and played three games for the team in the 2001/02 season. After bouncing back and forth between the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch and the Jackets, he holds the Crunch career records in games played, points, assists, powerplay goals and short handed goals. Moran then spent two seasons in the Swiss league and two seasons in the Vancouver Canucks farm system. He compiled three points in eight total National Hockey League (NHL) games and had 462 points in 556 AHL games. More recently, Moran has played in the Swedish Elite League and leagues in Finland and Austria. Earlier this summer, he signed a two-year deal with a hockey club in England where he is expected to close out his career. Our community of Bradner/Mt Lehman in which Moran grew up has historically held great values in sports of all kinds, contributing significantly to community life. Sports are important to the locals here, bringing fun, challenge and competition to every day community life. So, naturally Bradner is extremely proud of Brad Moran and his successful hockey career accomplishments! Fantastic job Brad! Bradner gives you a series of Hip-hip-horray's!
