Bill Love was always there to kick off the breakfast, providing juice and coffee. Other names from the area include Boyle, Patterson, Evanoff, Marsh, McCormick, McTavish, Kuzonski, Coffin, Bosmen, Susani, Gibson, and Easton. We apologize if anyone was missed. The Jubilee area was first settled in the mid 1860's by Moses Graff, shortly after British Columbia became a colony in 1858. It was named Jubilee in honour of Queen Victoria's "diamond jubilee" in 1897. Nestled in the foothills overlooking Glen Valley, Jubilee is bound by Starr Road (south), Mt Lehman Road (east), Bradner Road (west) and the south bank of the Fraser River. It is situated in the northwest corner of the current day Abbotsford. The original schoolhouse was located in the rear of the McCormick homestead on land donated by Wm. P. McCormick in 1887. The "Jubilee Farm" was at the top of the bluff on Bradner Road a few hundred yards south of the hall and five hundred feet off the valley floor. A more spectacular view of Vancouver and the lower mainland is hard to find. Jubilee Community Club was formed in 1936 and the hall constructed in 1937 on a volunteer basis by the area locals. The minutes of the first meeting were recorded in an old school primer, and these, along with other memorabilia have been safely kept over the years by local resident Albert Gibson. There have been many members and guests who have graced the steps of Jubilee Hall over the years. We would like to welcome them, along with those who are here for the first time to join us in our celebration of this special day. Like most events in our community, everyone takes part, from Grandpa's and Grandma's right on down to the very youngest children. Nothing too fancy, just some good ol' folks, and some pleasant conversation, making for a relaxed and down home time.
