By Lynda Richard - The Bradner Flower Show was started in 1928 by area pioneer Fenwick Fatkin as a venue for local growers to showcase their daffodils, and Bradner has become famous as the “Daffodil Capital of Canada.” A small rural hamlet with a wonderful sense of community; the show is produced by the Bradner Community Club, a longstanding service organization operated on a 100% volunteer basis. Fenwick’s family is involved in the show to this day, with granddaughter Pauline serving as chair of the show. Each year several thousand people arrive to take in the displays and activities at the show. We are planning an event that is interesting, informative and most of all, fun! Join us Friday April 7th, when Scott Pearce of GardenWorks will be our special guest to open the show. You may have seen Scott on Global TV where he appears regularly as the Saturday morning gardening expert. At 2 pm he will preside over the opening ceremonies for the show, where there will be a performance by the much loved Bradner Elementary Hand Bell Choir, as well as a chance to meet your government representatives. Scott will be on hand after the opening ceremony just outside the doors in the “Speaker’s Corner” to answer all of your gardening questions. Other special guests throughout the weekend include Bert the Mole Man, Chris Bodnar of Glen Valley Organic Farm, Chef Travis Petersen and demos from local wineries Singletree and Campbell’s Gold. Don’t miss your chance to sample their amazing products! In addition to the hundred's of varieties of daffodils that local growers present each year, there will be plant sales, crafts, and lots of food. On Saturday and Sunday we'll expand our venue to include additional displays in the Bradner School gym that will include the Langley Spinners & Weavers, the Abbotsford Quilters, and too many more to list! Once again, this year’s show will be decorated by the floral designers at Simply Perfect Flowers, and we are expecting a spectacular display from this innovative and creative group of experts. You will not want to miss seeing what they come up with! The show dates are April 7th 2pm - 5 pm & April 8th and 9th from 10am - 5pm @ Bradner Hall, 5305 Bradner Rd, in Abbotsford. Admission is still only $2.00, a true bargain for a full day of family fun. For more information visit the Bradner Hall on Facebook, email the organizers or call 604-856-8441. Please note: this is a community fundraiser; all proceeds from cut flowers will be donated to Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre. You can help make our community event a success! We are in need of volunteers, this is a great way to connect with the community. Even if you can only spare an hour or two, we need your help and are grateful for any time you can give. We need help with set up prior to the show and during the show. We are also in need of baking donations, they can be brought to the hall throughout the duration of the show.
