Happy Halloween! By Ashley Rempel - Ok, I know by the time you read this Halloween will be long gone but oh well. Today I will tell you about Bradners 2016 Halloween party! It was a dark and stormy night…..(not really that's just how you start a spooky story) On October 28 2016, lots of people attended and wore their amazing Halloween costumes, I saw skeletons, pirates, vampires, fairies, cats, unicorns, a hotdog….yes a hotdog! (It was the cutest thing ever!) and much much more. We ate pizza, salad and some other delicious stuff for dinner, once we were done the staff brought out the dessert. 1 word: paradise. We ate until our stomachs refused anymore food. While I was sitting down watching the party, I realized no one had started dancing yet. So I grabbed some little kids and we started dancing. Hey someone has to get this party started! I remembered thinking to myself. The party was filled with life, everywhere you would look there would be smiles on people's faces, that's one of my favourite parts. The party never officially started before the DJ put on some music. Everyone was dancing having a good time and then it was time for…… the hula hoop contest! We watched the little kids go first, they hula hooped like their life depended on it. Everyone was chanting for each other, and I watched as the kids big happy smile spread across their face. The contest kept going to a higher grade until it was the parents turn. Now I can't believe I'm going to say this but, they did awesome! I did not expect them to keep it up as long as they did. Good job! Once the hula hoop contest was over we started dancing some more, the DJ watched us dance and then once and awhile he stopped the music, and if you were in his magic spot you get a glow stick. Yay! They're really fun to play in the night. Everyone goofed around, and played tag and stuff. The DJ also announced the pumpkin carving winners. The primary 2nd place winner is Frank Michel, and the 1st place winner is Amy Brader! For intermediates the 2nd place winner is Caitlin Schulz and in 1st place we have Leighla! Fantastic job you guys! All the pumpkins were amazing, they were all unique. Each one different from another, everyone put so much time into them, you should be proud of yourselves! I even saw one pumpkin impaled by cutlery and other objects…... poor pumpkin. After that we had a little break and just talked to our friends, some kids played outside and gazed at the beautiful night sky. The stars were out and as pretty as ever. Then it was limbo time. We lined up in the order of our grades, you know preschoolers, kindergartens, grade ones, grade twos, grade threes, you get the picture. Almost everybody participated….. even some of the adults! Didn't see that one coming. We all cheered for the survivors and watched with anticipation as they got lower and lower, until they couldn't get any lower and fell. The winners got another glow stick. Once all the activities were done it was time to go home. It was late, everyone was tired from dancing the night away (literally). Some of us whose parents help clean up, stayed and tidied up the mess some had people left behind. Just stuff like their drinks and plates, no big deal. Then it was time to go home, now usually we finish putting away the decorations right after the party ends. We put away the decor, tables and other stuff. So that by the time we are done, it's 12:45am. Luckily we didn't have to do that this year, because LQMA was holding a racing banquet the following night. All in all 2016’s Halloween party was a blast! It never would have happened if it wasn't for the parents who helped set it up. Now I have been told that you guys have already been thanked, so I don't have to write everyone's names down and constantly stress that I forgot someone, but if you're reading this right now…...Thank-you. The Bradner Halloween Party is a fundraiser put on by the Bradner PAC and sponsored by the Brander Hall! All proceeds go towards the Bradner student body - to enhance each child's education and pay for fun and/or educational field trips!
