By Heather Lemieux, The Abbotsford School District reported an issue with their email system which started 12:30 pm Monday afternoon until 8:45am on Tuesday January 12th, 2016. Parents sending emails to any emails ending in @sd34.bc.ca. The issue was said to be resolved now after we contacted the IT department. The Bradner Barker has run its own investigation and this is what we found out... Parents have been complaining that emails were returned days later after being sent to the school district and board in Abbotsford, which is very concerning due to the time sensitive issue of the K-7 rural school reconfiguration. They were sent the following error messages: Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups: <[email protected]> Your message wasn't delivered because, despite repeated attempts to contact it, the recipient's email system didn't respond. Contact the recipient by some other means (by phone, for example) and ask them to tell their email admin that their email system isn't accepting connection requests from your email system. It's likely that the recipient's email admin is the only one who can fix this problem. For more information, see Status code 4.4.7. The message stating "the recipient's email system didn't respond." Means the address is restricted or non-existing, "the server won't accept delivery of the message." Also, they may have implemented some policy not to accept mails from generic addresses, like google, icloud and yahoo. Which may not be the case since their IT confirmed everything is up and running again. Has anyone tried to send from a non-generic address - for example [email protected]? Please resend your emails and let the Barker know if you have any further issues. Thanks! UPDATE: From the Abbotsford School District January 14th, 2016 - 4pm
Special Note re: Email issues Jan 11-12Did you send us an email between Monday, Jan.11 at approx. 12:30pm and Tuesday, Jan.12, 8:45am? We may need you to re-send it! The district experienced an interruption to incoming email service from external email addresses. It is unlikely these mails will be recoverable or delivered. So, we ask if you did send someone in the district (at any school or department) an email in the time frame noted above, to please re-send it! Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Thank you.
