Jane's Walk in Mt Lehman

Brian Kingman - A message to Mount Lehman…and beyond!! Join us Saturday May  4th, 2019 @ 11am ​for the annual Jane's Walk hosted by Brian & Donna Kingman to learn more about the history of the community of Mt Lehman and meet up with neighbours and friends!

Jane's Walk is an annual festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. On the first weekend of May every year, Jane's Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. Jane's Walk encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.
 
At last years’ Jane's Walk, 27 folks gathered at the Mount Lehman Community Hall and walked to the Mt. Lehman Cemetery while Brian and Donna provided an historic account of various properties and grave stones.
 
This year, a slight but significant change. The walkers will gather at the Mt Lehman Community Hall located at the corner of Taylor Rd and Mount Lehman Rd. then walk south, stopping at the Mt Lehman United Church and discuss a short history of the 1894 structure.
 
Then they will proceed up to the Southern Rail (BC Electric) tracks, Fire Hall, Post Office, Library and  Credit Union to learn more about those historic sites. Then walkers will head over to the parking lot of the Army, Navy & Airforce Veterans building and memorial Cenotaph to learn about this historic building and former WW2 troop barracks, moved to its present day site in the 1950’s  from the Commonwealth Air Training facility at the Abbotsford Airport during WW2. Then a leisurely (downhill) walk returning to the Community Hall.
