Just discovered there's a like-minded slate of candidates running for school board trustee positions, under the parents first banner. Thank goodness, because my plan was to vote for ANYONE who isn't a current trustee. Why? Because a group of Bradner parents made a presentation to the current trustees regarding the boards middle school initiative. We attempted to present data which showed districts with middle schools were dropping the idea on account of numerous problems. Schools are continually engaging in the 'fad of the day' - have been doing that for decades, and we felt that the middle school concept was yet another in a long line of experiments gone bad. The data clearly showed problems with the concept but the chairman refused to allow us to ask any trustees a question, to engage in reasonable conversation with them. The trustees themselves behaved like tailors' dummies - totally unfit for the task of guiding Abbotsford's school system in what is probably the worst time in history for the public school system. So we determined after our attempt to present to the board fell on deaf ears, to replace the entire board with one who WOULD listen to parents concerns. A board that would place science, reason, and common sense ahead of misguided, bent political agendas. So we're glad to see that there is a slate of replacement candidates. For your childrens' sake, I would encourage everyone reading this to vote to remove the current board members. They have NOT represented parents' wishes. They have NOT acted in the best interest of our children. Indeed, I would say they have acted in a manner hostile and dangerous toward our children. Around here democracy doesn't show up very often. Just once every few years. In November, that chance makes a re-appearance. Don't miss it. If you care for your children's well-being and survival, that is.
