By Brian Kingman Bradner, BC - Here is a compelling story of what was most likely a thwarted attempt of mail theft as explained to me by a rural homeowner. If you have any comments on this story, please email me and I will forward the message to the landowner who contacted me. A possible mail theft was averted recently on Townshipline Road, between Ross and Bradner Roads. Where a flower stand and pumpkin stand are along the road. Sometimes mail gets delivered in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon-not consistent. A Bradner resident was out in the garden picking flowers and she saw the mail person have difficulty getting the mail into the box. There were approximately 9 envelopes, some bigger than average.
Within a minute a dark haired woman about 5’ 5” or 5’ 6” parked her small white 2 door car across the street by the pumpkin stand and came across and took the onlooking residents mail out of their box. The resident yelled that is was her mail, to which the unidentified dark-haired lady replied that the box was where the mail person said she should get her mail. She also said that she is new in the area. She again assured that it was her mail. She then came over to the fence and asked if there is any mail for Farad? There wasn’t. The resident asked what her address was and she said 269.. and couldn’t remember the last two numbers. There is not such a beginning to an address on Townshipline Road. The resident has called the police and reported the incident. Was this a scam? Has a similar situation happened to you? If you have heard of this happening around Bradner let people know so they can keep their eyes open in case it happens again. Last year when our mail boxes on Starr Rd were broken into, I saw a young couple picking (supposedly) up papers laying around the mail boxes. At first I thought, how nice. After I had passed I had a bad feeling that I should turn around and at least get a plate no. I was running a bit late. Next day our mail was broken into.
